Default Stripped oil drain plug

Well, I stripped out one of the oil drain plug screws on my 07 Rubicon... any thoughts on repairing this? I bought a new bolt and it still seeps out a little bit. Any thoughts??

I thought about retapping the whole to a 13mm and calling it a day but i am worried about getting metal shavings inside the the crankcase? I tried to use a thread repair kit but the bolt doesn't appear to be any real common size 12mm bolt. I tried 12mmx1.25 12mmx1.5 and 12mmx1.75.. none of which match up to the bolt.

I really don't want to have to split the case. Is there some sort of truck to repairing this thing? Or Am i just S.O.L.???

If you coat the tap with grease, the grease will hold the shavings as you re tap the hole. Try an auto parts or plumbing supply store for the grease. I would then fill up the crankcase and run the quad, and change the oil and filter. Any shavings left in the crankcase should be trapped by the oil filter.

I thought that these engines were made of aluminum.... therefore a magnetic plug wouldn't help much....

thanks for the advice Lefty...

Retapping will work and what HeftyLefty said with the grease will keep most of the shaving. You could buy cheap or use your old oil and pour it in and out a few times to run through the crankcase.

Most auto parts store also carry a self tapping plug they could match up to you old plug that would be slightly larger.

You could also go the Heli-Coil inserts but I have never used one of these.

Ill second the slightly larger self tap plug.
The new self tap plug will have slightly larger threads and a differant pitch.
Use tap oil and go freaking slow! as you go a couple of turns back it out then go for more. A little at a time and you will be ok

Your NAPA or auto zone will hook you up. Or if you have a good farm store that would even be better.
