Sorry so slow responding, I have been on other sites buying and trading rebuilder Harly bikes and parts while watching this site.
Once the spring is compressed, the top cup slides sideways off the shock rod via the caps groove

So now that you guys hi-jacked my thread, answer me this. What is the best way to stiffen my rear suspension. I've been looking for an aftermarket spring and/or adjustable shock but have I have found aftermarket parts are very limited for the 420. help

I don't think you'll go wrong getting a 2d quad if you can afford it. When we got ours (leftovers at a godfather price) wife said she'd be happy riding 2up, same as on bikes. We're both a lot happier driving our own machines.

Agin THANKS

Check with Hi-Lifter, they make an over load spring and an overload spring and shock combo. The spring set comes with the compression tool all three springs and the tool for around $120. The shock and spring combo are quite abit higher. I am considering just getting the spring kit all the way around cause of plow weight and rider or sand bag weight.......noticed I am already sagging.
Sorry for the hi-jack, but was on the same subject as you started.
Thanks
