Why would you stay away from the ES? Other then one more part to go bad in the middle of nowhere. I have noticed it takes some getting used to, down shifting during a spirited run and such.</end quote></div>

Lots and lots of posts in here, especially lately of problems with the ES system! This is just one of those buyer beware things for prospective buyers.

If you feel that the advantages of having ES outweigh the possibility of future problems...then go ahead. For me, my left foot works just fine, and why would I want to pay extra money for a system I neither like nor need???

I think the majority of machines that Honda produces, have ES. So, when folks (most of whom are not well informed to begin with!) go to buy one, they just end up with ES by default, because that is all there is on the dealers floor......</end quote></div>

With that being said, I am one of those people. I bought one and am having shifter problems. Still not sure what it is. Does anyone know if I can retro fit this ES to a foot shift model??? The 07's are still apearently having a problem, cos Im living proof.

I have about 1200 hours on my 04 Foreman. As of today I have not had any problems with my ES at all , and i use it for cattle, mud & snow. It has been great .

I have almost 100 Hours on my 07 Rancher ES and love it! Trails or dunes it shifts flawlessly and runs like a champ every time. I am running the GN4 oil still and so far so good! Not a single problem...great bikes for the $ IMHO...

Got the March Dirt Wheels, and they dissed the 420 for having "notchey" shifting, yet a few sentences before they are raving about how the manual transmission lets you keep the RPM's in the powerband (vs an automatic).

While I will agree that a 420 is notchey compared to a butter smooth 400EX, the notchey smoothes out some as the transmission gets more broken in.
