The 1984 and 1985 125M transmissions were notorious for broken shifting arms and the tab breaking off the center cases that the arm pivoted from. It's a big problem because there isn't enough there to weld with and new center cases are so expensive.....and almost any engine in the salvage yard is there for the same reason.
Granted,..this may not be your speciffic problem. But it more so likely than any other problem common amongst other Hondas. This problem should have been addressed by Honda when they first shown signs of defective.....back in 1985.
A sure sign of this is a shifter that moves fine but doesnt actually activate anything at all inside the transmission.

damn $30?? well dont spray to much starting fluid in the carb, its easy to lock that motor up. just spray a little and try cranking,i think your carb need a rebuild. It very simple to clean the jets, take the bottom part off called the bowl. you will a float, dont mess with it, but make sure it "bounces" and returns. You will see in the center two jets, one with have a flat head slot, and one with take plyers or a 8 or 10mm box end wrench. put those out and use a wire and clean in the inside and the little holes on the side, you should be able to see right through the jets, do the same to any other holes in the carb but be careful, dont use to big of wire and do not drill it out. the starter fluid wont do nothing for it unless its clean.
