2005 Rancher Clutch Adjustment
I've read that to properly adjust the clutch on a stock 2005 Rancher, 5 speed manual, you need to loosen up the nut on the front of the engine, turn the slotted bolt all the way out COUNTERCLOCKWISE until snug and then turn it back in 1/4 turn. Finally, while keeping the slotted bolt in the same position, tighten up the nut.
Sounds simple but....
If I loosen the nut a little, the slotted bolt will come out a little (~1-2 turns). If I loosen the nut allot (couple of turns) the slotted bolt will come out allot more too.
What is the correct procedure for doing this?
The transmission goes into 1 fine, 2nd with some effort and if I'm driving under a load or at speed, 3rd-5th are hard to shift into. I can shift up through th gears at very low speeds without too much problem but this just does not seem right.
Any help anyone can offer is appreciated. Thanks.

How come nobody ever has an owner's manual????
With the engine cold, loosen the lock nut. (If you have a problem with the slotted screw moving while you work the nut...just hold it still with a screw driver.) Turn the slotted screw counterclockwise until you just feel slight resistance (absolutely not until it is "snug"...ok!). Then, back it out clockwise 1/4 turn, and tighten the nut. (Again if you have a problem with the screw moving while you tighten the nut, just hold it still with a screw driver.)
