I have about 60 miles on my 2001 Rancher 4x4 es and mine does about 45 mph. My buddy has 250 miles on his and it does 51 mph. Looks like there is a definite break in to achive top performance.

 

yeah, it sure helps to break them in. My friends 4*4es would only go 82 km , rev limiter kicken in, when it was brand new. He didn't really break it in slow, but I don't think it hurts it too much. May puff smoke when it gets older.. now it will easily reach 83 on flat groung, with the rev limiter kicking in. This is true. I weigh 180 with my riding gear on. And it was the es, so you know it has a digital speedo. just take 83, divide by 1.6, and you got 51.875mph. But it should go a lot more than 42mph.

 

A friend and I tried this on Priveate road back in July, On blacktop I managed to get min up to 54 Mph, he had his up to 56 Mph. But if you think about it,all it would have taken was a little shimmy or slip and we would have been roadkill !

Nyal, rember that we are overreving as far as they will go to get them to the 53-54MPH speed. about the same RPM as a honda accord doing 60MPH in second gear (7,000RPM or so)!
