Help with 2001 400ex and Rancher
#1
Ok I am planning to buy one of these 4 wheelers in the upcoming months. I am wanting to know which you would think would be best for me. I will be riding on wide dirt roads and on trails in the woods. I am almost 16 years old and I have road my Uncle's 1992 Honda Fourtrax 300 4x4 alot and I have ridden my Grandpa's Polaris Sportsman 500 that I think is a 1997 model. But I want something that I can jump on some and something that is fast. I like riding wheelies thats why I would rather have the 400ex. Is it hard to get the 400ex going without lifting the front wheels off the ground? Do you have to do alot of Mantinece on the engine of the 400ex? I would think that you would have to do alot of mantinece on the 400ex since it is a 4 stroke and not a 2 stroke. Which quad would be better for my riding style?

I only had my 400ex for a month, so I won't reply about the engine upkeep on the 400ex. But generally if you ride often and hard, the 4 strokes have much less work involved to mantain them. Sounds to me like you are a prime candidate for the 400ex, if you like to ride wheelies, it is said to be the wheelie king.
If you rode the Polaris 500, why don't you consider that? I can ride wheelies forever on my ex and it jumps like a champ. It has more than enough power in the trails, and handles like a dream. But before you put your money down, listen to what others have to say. Even though the EX is a great bike, don't get narrow minded, get a test ride on all of the makes and models, and then you will see what fits you.
