2005 Rancher AT 4x4-Won't shift in Auto mode
I currently have a 2005 Honda Rancher AT 4x4. When i put it in reverse or put the switch in automatic shift mode the display flashes --- and ESP at bottom (5 short and 1 long). Also when i put it in reverse, the display flashes, will idle, but when i try to accelerate it cutsout like an engine rev limiter only it does it right off of idle. I can cycle the ignition with the selector in manual mode and can shift it through all 5 gears. I have read some posts where Hondamechanic helped a few others but didn't see anything on a code 5 (or 6).

Had the exact same thing happen to my 05 Rancher. I think you have to initialize the transmission. At least that is what i did, and it works great ever since.
Make sure your quad is in nuetral. While holding the up and down shift buttons (on the left handlebar) cycle the key on. With the key on, push up down up on the shift buttons. Then fully press your throttle one time. You should hear some noise coming from the transmission. Once that is done, your gear display should be back to nuetral. Do not do this alot, as it is meant to be an initialization.
Hopefully this helps ya! Good Luck.
