Default 2002 ES Rancher wont shift

HI everyone,

I have a 2002 rancher ES with around 9500 miles. Never have had any problems until yesterday with the ES. I can still shift manually but it wont shift using the ES. It runs fine still and starts good so I sure its not the battery. The problem started yesterday I started the machine took off using the ES as normal was fine shifted through the gears to 4th heading to my barn. I got close and went to downshift to 3rd still using the ES and it wouldnt shift down I continued to the barn where i stopped. I tired to shift up and down with the ES and got NOTHING. I shut it off and started still nothing. I used the manual lever to shift it to Neutral to get it to start and drove it home using the manual lever.

I have no clue what the problem could be as it is an 02 it doesnt show any codes. I am a good mechanic but the electric area isnt my strongest point.

Wondering if this might be a common problem like and angle sensor going bad?
I think it could be a broken wire, but really have no clue not even sure where to start.
Any help will be much appreicated

Thanks BOB
