I am very interested how a simalar design is going to work in a atv. On paper sounds like a great idea! If it works Honda may just ave a hit/winner on there hands.</end quote></div>

Head down to your Honda dealer and ride one, if you live where they do that. We need someone to ride one, or better yet buy one, and give us a rider review!

i dont ride it but the final gear ratio in 1st geat is 38 so it will be very very high geared. for comparasion, the final gear ratio of the 420fm and fe in 1st gear is 46,4!!

I wonder if they changed the final drive ratio in the axles?

Anyhow, I know my local dealer has one, but I don't know if it is set up and running...

If Honda put it on the market, one can bet they did a bunch of durability testing, refine the design here and there, and test again...

My hope is that it still has a really low first gear, and that making a 5 speed auto with low gear for the Rincon is next on their list of things to do...

no it dont got a first low gear, check this: http://www.highlifter.com/foru...ted)/m_2951181/tm.htm

That explain all the gear ration and the new transmission!

Somebody who is experienced needs to ride one. Hactorious rode one, but I don't think he is experienced enough to sense what the gearing is like.

Honda's advertising talks about an ultra low 1st gear...so I wouldn't jump to any premature conclusions based on just some numbers. Remember, things like tire size matter too, etc., etc.........

I hadn't seen that...

What the heck was Honda thinking, giving the thing a 21% higher 1st gear than the FM?

All this mental masturbation over some numbers is silly! Everybody frets that the SRA Rancher has only 6.5" of ground clearance (funny, mine has 7.5" with stock tires), yet I go rock crawling and never hit my rear end on anything. It's just numbers....which are of no consequence in the real world where I ride.

And fussing that it might be like the (no low end power) Rincon is silly too. The Rincon (which Honda calls an "SUV"...not a utlitiy quad!!!) has a mushy torque converter, that loses lots of power. The AT has a grear-on-gear manual trans setup with instant shifting and instant clutch engagement. There is going to be a huge difference!

but the number cant lie for the gear ratio, the transmission is effective but the gear is high geared, and that not surprise me, each time honda come with a new quad, it is always more high geared thant the older model, the 350 rancher was higher geared than the 300 and the 420 is higher geared than the 350, same thing with the foreman 500.

Well, if that bothers you, then don't freaking buy one already! You guys go and throw huge tires on these things, then complain that you lost all your low end. The Rancher is more sport quad than utility. If you need a "tractor", get something else!

The Rancher engine is a bit oversquare, and rips right off the bottom thanks to the fuel injection. That means that even though 1st gear is low, it doesn't seem that way because you have already reved past it in half a second. I rarely do a 1st gear start anyway......
