Default Do you use Skid Plates on your plow?

I was curious if anyone doesn't use skid plates on there plows. I just installed a 60 inch Moose plow and with the skids on it will leave about 1 inch of clearance from the ground. I was wondering how quickly it will wear out the wear bar on the plow if I didn't run the skids so it would plow down to the pavement and leave no snow. Anybody see any problems with taking them off?

I don't recommend removing the skids. One, yes it will wear the wear bar quicker, two, it may damage the driveway surface, but three, and most important, it leaves you at risk for hitting something and damaging your quad or yourself. I once had a tractor that had a plow on it without the skids. I hit a hidden curb in a driveway and it threw me forward into the steering wheel so violently that it darn near killed me. And when I finally recovered and looked at the tractor, the frame was bent where the plow arms attached. Yes, the skids will leave a little snow but that's not as big of a deal when you consider the consequences of removing the skids. I wouldn't do it.

I have the Glacier plow system on my Popo and have also added a bead of weld to the bottom of plow edge to give it better durability. Just a suggestestion as I dont know much about the Moose plow systems though I do hear they are good!

I am using the plastic wear bar. On the concrete and paved drive I raise the skids completely up and out of the way. On the gravel area of the drive I allow for about an 1" of clearance. However I still wind-up with gravel in the yard when the season is over. Oh well, gives me something to do in the spring.......Pick-up the gravel and put it back on the drive.

i have used mine for 4 years without the shoes and i have plowed my 1000 foot drive and 3/4 of a mile of county road many times......just now starting to show some wear. the key is not to let it ride with all the blades weight on the edge.....keep some tension on the cable
