Default Skid Plates

We just bought our son a 2007 Honda 250 Recon.... He is interested in skid plates for it. Has any one purchased any from a reputable company?

Thanks
Dan

I was in the market for a skid plate for my '06 Rubi, but a local ATV guru told me not to install the skid plate. He said the frame and placement of the vitals would make it near impossible for anything to cause damage. He felt the skid plates offered little to no additional protection, just added weight and reduced performance. He said that sticks will get stuck in the arm plates and puncture the boots.

He also said it will cause rusting on the pipe framing due to the U bolts rubbing the protective coating off.

Just a thought so you can make an informed decision. FYI...he sells ATV parts, so he basically talked me out of a $350 sale.

I used a light plastic one from Maier for the chassis, and kept the stock one on the rear final drive. http://www.maier-mfg.com/

Don't laught at the plastic! It is very durable and is slick and doesn't gaul and hang up on rocks like aluminum does. Remember, they make guns out of plastic these days!

As far as the rear end, all the skid plates I checked out reduced the ground clearance considerably, so I stuck with the stock one but have to change it out now and then, because it really isn't very heavy duty.

Check Rocky Mountain for other options. I usually run DG skids on my other quads.
