Default Drowning a 420

How deep in water can I go before I drown my 420? I have looked at the air intake tube and found it to be right in front of the seat. Does that meen I can be in water up to the seat or is there something i am missing? Another inlet??

Thanks for any input....

Basically your airbox intake is your main limiting factor, your vent lines SHOULD be higher then that, but dont count on it. If you have drum brakes there are small rubber hoses that vent them, there is one for each differential, and the engine crankcase is usually vented into the stock airbox.

Deep water isnt for the faint of heart, getting water into the airbox can mess with the carb, could possibly travel into the crank case making the engine un-rideable (unless you want to permanently damage it), and you almost alwasy get water into the front/rear diff meaning frequent diff oil changes. Get to know the drain screw for the carb well, and carry enough oil to do at least 2 oil changes in the woods.

Take apart all electrical connectors and apply di-electric grease to all connections, water will find its way in and you may end up with lights not working, or worse a bike that wont run. Its easier to do this with all the plastics removed.

People always say that they wont travel in Too deep water, those people ALWAYS find the hole that is JUST that much too deep.

Forgot about the vent hoses for the crankcase and diffs, will check into those. I have allready done some of the connections. Had it in water last night to the bottom of the head lights, not even a sputter. Don't think I will be going deeper then that. I hope....

Thanks for the input....

My 2007 420 died bout the time the front rack went under. Maybe a little before. A shallow creek turned deep fast. When I got off of it to pull it back out of the water, it floated and it rolled over, nothin showin but 4 tires.
