Default 2002 350ES Rancher dies in little water

When i go in water to the floor boards the engine dies like it's getting wet. I push it out the water till the floor board are out the water and wait a few seconds and it start right up and it runs fine. My question is what part of the wiring harness/sensor runs that low would cause this problem.

Thanks,
Travis

Sounds like the spark plug may be grounding out when in water. Get yourself some dielectric grease, fill the plug boot and reconnect to the plug. See if this helps.

Default Still having problems

Thanks for the reply,

The water doesn't get close to the plug or the coil. It just has to get to the floor boards and it dies, and as soon as the floor boards get out the water, it starts right up.

Would the reverse sensor/rev limiter have anything to do with this problem? If the water doesn't touch the back of the engine it runs fine. If the water get on the floor boards and i keep moving it runs fine, but if i stop with the water on the floor boards it dies right away. I'm thinking it's something to do with one of the lower sensors on the back of the engine.

I'd disconnect the battery, then take apart every connector on the bike. Spray out with contact cleaner and compressed air, then pack with dialectric grease.

Heck, if it doesn't solve the problem you haven't wasted any time as it is still a good preventative measure.

My buddys 06 Rincon does the same thing. I drove it almost up to the fuel tank in water and it didn't want to run. As soon as I got on dry land, it ran fine. I'll try cleaning and greasing the spark plug cap and all other electrical connections and switches...thanks good info. As much water we have had here in CNY this year, it's hard NOT to ride in water...lol.

Sounds like the carb is using the overflow/drain tube as the carb vent .. I would check for pinched/plugged air vent tube ..
