2010 Honda Rincon?
#41
I personally have owned or have ridden every brand or quad out there. This does not by any means make me a expert but with a technical degree in diesel engines and in the automotive field I think I have a good idea of how things work or should work! Just for the record Honda tho a great machine better get with the program or they will be left behind! FAR behind!

Honda needs to step up and start offering features the other big bores have been using for years now-
Honad has no engine braking or front locking diff- the engine is very underpowered compared to the can-am outlander 800, polaris's XP 850, kawai's brute 750 or AC 1000.
I also used to be a big honda fan, until I got more into extended trail rides with rough terrain and mud- Ancient drum brakes and solid axles on all but one of their models was the topper that pushed me to better equiped trail machines with IRS, locking diffs, disk brakes and engine braking.
I guess Honda has a well built transmission and a decent suspension- but again, I like the full auto CVT tranny all the other big bores have and totally hate the electronic shifter mounted on the rincons bars-
If you're looking for sport feel combined with amazing trail features, the outlander is what you want, if you waant more utility / trail features & feel, then the sportsman will suit- the brute is a good hybrid of both, but not as comfortable as either the popo or outty- the grizz is nice, but I think the suspension is too squishy for me- even on the firmest setting.

I keep thinking one of these days honda is going to release some unreal monster quad- and they are just waiting to see what kind of bugs the other makers are having- but then again, honda has bigger things to design & engineer, probably not too concerned about the atv market. Polaris, Can-Am & AC only make rec vehicles so, they probably spend more time designing atv's then honda, who's busy with suv's, cars, trucks, heavy equipment and home improvement. Huh- I bet the atv R&D dept. at Honda is where they break all their fresh college engineering grads looking for an "in". ATV's are pretty simple compared to suv's and heavy equipment. Honda definitely has the pockets and resources to design & build a better atv then any other recreation manufacturer... I should think.
Also- is it me or do the japanese manufacturers seem to be a little behind in design compared to the american & canadian makers- took the asians forever to offer a grizz 700, and kawasaki is almost there- as soon as they refine that front locking diff with the annoying lever you have to squeeze and hold to engage it.

LOL Honda has not had a high HP anything since well maybe the 250R
The 700XX dont count as they only use that engine in one single quad. tho IMHO that is the engine they should be using in the Rincon!

The Honda Rubicon has the best engine braking in the industry of any auto equipped ATV.
I too have ridden a lot of ATVs, in fact I have ridden almost every 2011 Polaris manufactured.
There's more to an ATV than power. Those high horsepower ATVs are the ones that come here and do the most damage to our trails and that's not what's in the best interest for the sustainability of our trail system.
Buy what you think is best for you.

In this ATV Television review they call the 3 speed Rincon tranny Silly and there pro Honda also you get to see the 3wd ill effects many times in the video.
A big Bore ATV that should not be worked, makes little sense to them,Honda even recommends buying the smaller mid bore 500 if work is your thing.
Its a 2003 review but the tranny and dive train never changed its what you will get in 2011 .

If you want to ride a great "fast" trail machine then do consider a Rincon. If you want a mudder or something to climb/decend steep hills at a crawling speed then buy something else.
Buying a Rincon to do slow technical trails or mudding is like buying a Cadillac to haul bricks to the job site.

The worst are the 2 stroke dirt bikes- they carve any trail up in just a few passes and create nasty single track ruts. Any atv 300cc and up is more then capable of tearing up a trail- it's the rider and the 3" tire lugs that directly make it happen. If everyone kept their stock tires on, you'd see 40% less wear & tear on a trail I bet.

Honda already has a nice Powerful reliable OHC 650cc (60hp at the crank and 47.2 ft. lbs @ 5500rpm) motor in there XR650L The best dual-sport motor bike you can buy IMO that would work great in a ATV,what advantage they find in a low reving OHV motor is beyond me.

Thats where Yamaha got there Grizzly motors from, there Dual sport XT600 and XT660, not sure but I guess they have a XT 700 now?
