HELP!! 02' 400EX Transmission / Shifter Problems
#1
I have an 02' 400EX, Had it out yesterday and was running great. I went off trail slightly and jumped off to push it back out onto the trail, when i got back on and shifted into 1st nothing happened! Its like the bike is stuck in neutral almost or the clutch is stuck. it still starting and sounding great. It simply wont lock into any gears! I can feel the shifter clicking through the gears and can hear them as well, the light even shows when in neutral and goes off when i shift to 1st or 2nd. When started i can shift through the gears freely without using the clutch but nothing happens, no locking into gear or anything! Please advise if anyone can help with figuring this one out or may have had same problem. Thanks!!

Did you hit the shifter with your foot when trying to get back on atv or hit shifter when getting off of atv??? this atv has as cheap 4 buck spring on shift linkage that breaks and won,t let the shifter lock down to enage this shifting dawgs... but if this is the case the engine has to completly torn down.... I no this sucks... But you can take the engine side cover off to see if this shifter is working correctly..

Well,
I got the right crankcase cover off, now with it off and the clutch disengaged from the clutch cable it now locks into gear!! So i am suspecting it is something to do with the clutch lever or maybe the clutch plates? Any suggestions!>?

Can you turn the front sprocket shaft to see if the tranny is locking into gear? If it is locking into gear then it is in the clutch assy.,lever, basket has burrs in it, or sticky clutch, worn clutch.. If its not locking into gear then shift linkage is cracked, pivot bolt backed out causing shift pattern to wide, shift fork bent,etc.....Check in with us after is you check some more...
