Is there a difference in 98 and 00 recon models?

I have a 98 model honda recon and my freind has a 00 model honda recon and we race all the time .when we race we stay about the same on take off but on topend i leave pretty bad i dont understand why mines faster we have the same size tires and they are both bone stock . ive also beat a honda 3004x4 ,honda 3002x4,polaris325 magnum,yamaha bigbear,and hung with a polaris trailblazer

Maybe yours is better broken in,or tuned better and taken care of more?????

Is the throttle adjusted to open all the way?

His probably just has the tires worn down alot more. Less tread height=lower gear ratio, and slower topend. Also, pressure in the tires makes a difference. And if your concerened with top speed, don't go for sure-tracks, mine are 2 inches shorter than advertised.

but both of ours hit the rev limiter but it seems like mine revs more

Might be that since you pipe is older it might have a reduced backpressure, is yours louder?
Also his could be running more lean then yours, maybe his mixture screw is turned a little more or less then yours. Could be lots of little things, since yours is faster I wouldn't question it but just enjoy it
