Anyone running Carlisle AT489 tires on their Rancher?
#1
Looking at upgrading my wheel and tire setup on my Rancher 4x4 from 24 inches to 25 inches. Anyone running Carlisle AT489s? If so can you share the details of wheel and tire size you are riding on and please comment on impression of the tires. I ride mostly up in New Hampshire on hard packed dry trails in the summer and I occasionally ride packed snowmobile trails in the winter so I am looking at a good all purpose trail tire like the AT489s. Any replies and comments are much appreciated.

Stock tires on every Honda are 4 ply junk except for the RINCON, any 6ply tire made by any brand will be a large improvement. Dont have the 489s but you would like the XL Mudlites ,there more agressive then the Mudlite ATs and not as agressive as XXLs and come in 25x12-11 if you have a extra 1" clearance on the inside without rubbing on anything.

I replaced my OEM tires and wheels with Terra-Cross radials and ITP 108 wheels.
So far these have been a great set of tires for rocky and hard packed trails here in the mountains. They have really excelled as a great tire for plowing snow in the winter.......excellent tractions and handling. I have around 1200 miles on them and they are wearing exceptionly well.
Only draw back is they are somewhat heavy for the 420 rancher, but I have learned to compensate..........a little more shifting needed.
Great tire....excellent snow and ice traction, excellent rocky terrian traction and great handling...........highly recommended.

I actually agree with TLC =) I have mudlites and I know some people crap on them for some reason i think its because they are so popular =) I stuck some on my rancher just the AT's The XL's like someone else pointed out might be better as the AT's are basically worn out XL's but i dont like the feeling they have on hard pack that bumping because the luggs are so deep. I got about 1000 miles on my ATs with alot of pavement and hard pack trails and I couldnt be happier with how they are wearing. they were cheap too I paid like 55 bucks a tire thats a steal!!
I understand you want an all purpose tire I was looking for the same thing my trails are pretty hard packed with a little bit of mud and I was reluctant to put mudlites on but for the price i couldnt pass them up and they grip very very well on about all terrain.

unit6666 thanks for the reply. Seems like you highly recommend the ATs on your Rancher. Every once in awhile, when I come across a long open logging road I like to get her up to 45-50mph. Can you comment on their high speed capability? Also any chance you can tell me where you purchased your ATs for that price?

The high speed is fine on the At's the lugs are much smaller and flatter. I had XL's on a prairie 650 and at about 50 they were pretty sketchy. I see no problem with the AT's at high speed as long as you are only going to 25inch.
25 inch and bigger tires basically turn a good handling atv into a tractor. From the sounds of it you got some nice trails you probably dont need tractor tires hehehe
I got mine from a local shop so that's not gonna help you... good luck..
