Default Trx200sx clutch/tranny question

Well got out on the trx200sx I have been restoring and runs and shifts great, but noticed when I pulled into the sloped driveway it would roll backwards while in any gear when I turn it off Turn it around forward and it holds solid in gear? Why would it roll in reverse when in gear? Reverse and all forward gears seem flawless, I have not got on it hard, due to just braking everything in. Sound like an adjustment? I have never had an atv with auto trans? Hell.. it may be common. Clutch?..

Thanks for any help

Geo

Sounds normal. You should read up on how to break a new or rebuilt motor in. You're supposed to get on it. Don't baby it. There's several good articles out there. I'll see if I can track a few down.

Thanks,
The motor is original, it is the full suspension that was rebuilt. Every bearing, bushings, and seals, king pins, was replaced. I was just making sure nothing was going to fall apart, it was totally apart. I wanted to ride it around a bit,and re torque everything.
This is when I noticed when in gear, it will roll backwards. I just does not hold, will roll backwards. Forward is ok.

Thanks,

Geo

I think it should roll either direction when in gear and idling. Maybe the idle is a bit too high. I know that doesn't fully explain it but a clutch sometimes will wear more in one direction. Kind of like when a tire feathers.

This is when it is not running. I have a sloped driveway, if I drive up the driveway and have it in first gear and shut it off, it will roll down the hill backwords, even when in first gear. If I turn it around so the front is facing down hill and put it in first gear it holds like it should. Think of it like driving your car up a hill, pulling over and putting the manual transmission in 1st gear but it still rolls backwards down the hill.

This can't be right..

Thanks,
Geo

I don't know. I will test that on my Recon tonight. It has the same tranny set up.

That is really a peach. Ok, here's the deal. Your tranny is fine. Mine does the same thing. When in a forward gear with the engine off, it won't move forward but will move backwards. When in reverse with the engine off, it won't move backwards but will move forward. With the engine idling and with it in any forward gear or reverse, it will move forward or backward. Yours is fine.
