Default i cant find neutral on my '88 trx250r

if my quad is moving i can put it in neutral. but if my quad is stopped, i cant put it in neutral because its too hard and i end up shifting too hard and it goes into second.

Do you change the gear oil regularly? When was the last time it was changed? When I bought my 250R, it did the same thing and the gear oil was nasty. Shifts great after putting in some Gear Saver.

when you shift up, try revving the engine. that trick works for me.
