05 Ranger...Starting Problem
#2
By kick over I assume you mean it cranks (good battery) but won't fire up. It probably has bad gas in the carb. Gas will turn to varnish in a few months. After a year, it's a pretty sure thing that bad gas is the problem. You'll most likely have to remove the carb, take it apart and clean it. Also, get rid of the gas in the tank. But before you do all that, first drain the gas and put fresh in. Then spray some carb cleaner in the carb as you crank it. Then see if it will start with some starter fluid in the carb. Or, remove the plug and put a tablespoon of gas in the cylinder, replace the plug and try starting it. If you can get it started, continue to spray carb cleaner in the carb while it is running. A little at a time. Don't put so much in that it stalls. But in the furtue, you may want to clean the carb anyway. And when you store it, put some Sta-bil in the tank. Get it at any auto store.
