Unhappy 04 Honda Rancher AT 400 Not Running Right Sometimes

I had a problem this week after a nice 1 hr ride on some trails I was exiting the woods which required a climb of a short 60 ft. long trail that is nothing bad at all. I reached the top and after leveling off and driving about 10 ft. is started to sputter and died. I looked in my tank but it had fuel over the center raised part of the gas tank so I tried to restart it and it would only run if I had the choke pulled out but sputtered and popped if I reved it up. I kept restarting it and finally took off while I had the choke pulled out a bit and then if I gave it gas it would ride ok as long as I gave it gas but if I let it throttle back it died. I tried it again the next day and the same thing but after running it over and over up and down a field and restarting it a few times it would idle again and start correctly again. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be ??? I can't seem to find any sort of fuel filter on this ATV either on the fuel line.

This atv has an screen filter thats inside tank thats above the fuel cut off value! the fuel shut off value has to be removed to get to this screen! IMO its prolly okay! I would drain and flush tank out and carb, flush carb by loosening the brass screw at the bottom of carb bowl, sounds like you got water moving around in fuel!
