Default fuel coming from carb hose

I was doing some routine maintenance on our 05 Rubicon and I noticed there is gas dripping from the carb drain hose( I assume that is what it is). It is the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb and goes straight down.

What does this mean? Where should I begin to look for the problem? Should I tear the carb down and see if there is any dirt in there? I do have a manual since I am not that good at fixing stuff. I have no problem tearing it down but I always have a problem putting it back together.

I do not notice any trouble starting or running it.

I found out there is a one way valve in that drain hose. Should the hose above the valve always have fuel in it? I am going to a local atv shop soon for some oil and other stuff and I will ask someone there about it and see if they have one in stock. That little valve is expensive, 12 bucks for that little thing.

That is the carb bowl over flow/ drain. you will see a small screw in the base of the bowl near it, you open that to drain the bowel, make sure that is tight. The only other thing that could cause that is an over flowing carb bowel, either your floats are mis adjusted or starting to sink (going bad) or the needle and seat is getting worn and letting gas by, or there is a little speck of dirt holding the needle and seat open. Try a good cleaning, removing the needle and seat, and inspect them for worn spots, dont take much to leak gas by. With a 7 year old quad, a new needle and seat might not be a bad idea while you have it apart.

Thanks for the reply.

Are the needle and seat located in the float chamber? When looking up parts on a schematic, what are those parts called? I may go ahead and order them before I tear it down because we use the atv just about every day and I don't want to tear it down, find out I need the parts, put it back together until I get the parts, then have to tear it back down again once parts arrive.

Yes, needle and seat are in the float chamber, in the bottom of the carb body facing down into the bowl. It will either be called a needle and seat assembly, or labeled as a float valve, but the parts people at the dealership or parts store will know it as a needle and seat assembly.

Do you think parts stores would carry these on hand or would they have to order them?

I may go ahead and get the whole float set since it is not that much higher than just the needle and seat.

most dealers would have that in stock, Dennis Kirk can get it to you in a couple days, if you know the carb model and type. If you have a Honda dealer close by, they would probably have it.
