This past weekend I ran against a 400 sport at Big River Sand drags and lost. The only mods the sport had was a RCR port job and domed and of course clutch mods. In 300' the sport ran a 5.72 compared to my 5.93. Not only was he beating the bejezzus out of the 440 he also put a few Raptors and Banshees in their place as well. I've been throwing money at my 440 like crazy lately to gain that underdog respect, but I need to redirect the cash flow towards my 400 sport. Polaris is kicking serious butt at the drags. That automatic tranny with the right mods will haul mail. There was a Polaris 860 triple turning 4.2 without using his nitros mod. Polaris has gained my respect. Please don't give me any crap about skill level, I've been riding for 32 years. This 400 sport is flat out fast.

99'440, 12:1 JE, port job, XR cam, XR250 cdi, modded air box w/stock filter, and full DMC.

97'400 Sport Many mods to come.

Tell us something we don't know. My Sport lives on a strict diet of 4oo EXs. They are no match for the far superior Polaris. Although the Sport weighs 80 pounds more, the EX just doesn't have the power to put up a fight. The EX is a nice beginners quad, though.

nice beginner quad?????

now that wasn't nice...

I'm a big fan of the 400EX and Scramblers...
don't quite understand the 400 Sport thing, however I do know they are fast... but the 400EX is NOT a beginner quad by any means... hell a stock 400EX on a motorcross track is all you need to beat any other type of bike, if you're a good rider...

straight line drags take NO skill, especially if you're driving an automatic!

If you ask me, the 400 Sport is the beginner bike

I bet I can jump my "beginner" 400ex twice as far as your polaris!! and run circles aroun you on a track.

...read the mags, the 400ex is the best all-around bike, especially for racing!

horrible news ------
That same day, someone went on a ramp stealing rampage, everyones ramps were stolen. The owner of the 400Sport popped a cork when he tried to lift his quad on the trailer. On a positive note, swelling only size of baseball, could have been as large as basketball if medical attention were not immediately administered.

You need a new cam, my 426EX kills my dad's 400 sport all the time. He has reeds, k&n and pipe. You might want to try the web cam 450/451 grind, and maybe get a carb too.

people underestimate the 400 2 stroke motor, a ridding buddy has a 1996 400 Xpress and it is stone stock, he beat every 400EX there in a timed 500 foot grass drag race and he was still pulling ahead at the end. you 400EX guys all say that you kill everything but how come in the real world I have never yet seen a 400EX beat a 400 sport and 400 xpress a Banshee a DS or a Raptor? forget track racing 5 percent of atv's actually see a track. majority of riders do not ride on tracks.

Did you think about changing the sprockets? Try a different set up. I'm sure the guy on the Polaris changed his.

I think people forget that a 2 stroke has a zippy power band, even the Polaris. The 4 stroke has constant torque like a train.

You Polaris owners come get you some. I promise I won't be that easy to beat, if at all!!!
