Default brake light wiring

I want to make my quad street legal. And I'm going a step at a time. How do I wire the brake light to come on when I push the brakes. I never got why they didn't do that from the factory

It depends on the age of your Quad if all the brake levers work the brake lights. I think all the new Hondas do. If they don't, you need microswitches that work when the handlebar levers are pulled, and a pull switch with a spring on it for the footbrake, most Hondas made this century have that one anyway. Having the light attached to the parking brake is a bit of a pain, as it will be on if the ignition is left switched on when the bike is parked. I fit UK "road legal" kits to Quads, and several have melted lenzes due to the heat from the "EEC certified" brake lights, being left on. The new LED type lights should end that problem.
