Default 2000 Honda Recon Fuel line dilemma

Hi!

I'm working on a 2000 Honda Recon In just recently picked up, and am trying to sort the fuel system. It came with a leaking petcock with broke off main/reserve line, missing the filter and selection lever. Additionally, the previous owner had cobbled lines together to include an inline fuel filter.

I purchased a used OEM assembly off of eBay, and am having trouble getting the included line to fit onto the carburetor barb. It seems that the petcock barb(5/16?) and carburetor barb(1/4?) are different sizes. The line placed on the carburetor leaks fuel. even with a line clamp installed.

Has the PO messed up something with the barb? Looking at online parts diagrams, it shows two different size tube clips, so I think everything is right, just not sure why the kine is too large for the carburetor barb.

Please help! Thanks!

get the smaller hose and soak the end in hot water to get it onto the larger side
