Default Having neutral light problems with 2001 Honda Trx 250 recon

After almost fully rebuilding my 2001 trx 250 recon, I had the engine in and everything hooked up ready to go. I got a brand new battery placed in and fully charged and when I turned the key no neutral light came on. I made sure it was in neutral and that everything was hooked up but still no luck. Previous owner had a rats nest of wires for a accessory 12v outlet that I ripped out. I noticed that one of the ground wires was snipped so I put it back together. Still no luck. Before I ripped out the wiring the quad turned over and turned on. Also the electric start switch does not work either. However the quad started when the key was turned on(the light still not working) when I arced the starter solenoid with a pair of pliers. Also one thing to not I wired up after market led lights to the front and those actually work by the high beam switch. Someone please help

The Recon has a fairly simple wiring loom, not much different to those "bare bones" Chinese systems. Neutral light switch earths a wire which goes to the neutral light and solenoid, there is a diode in there too I think. On many Hondas this wire also goes to the CDI and provides a better spark for starting, when the bike is in neutral, not sure if the 250 has this. My Recon manual is at work so I can;t check. This neutral wire is often pale green or pale green/red. If I can remember, I will check with the manual today.

I was pretty accurate in my guess, most of the neutral light wiring is pale green, one branch turns to pale green/red, the one to the solenoid I think, there is a diode, and one branch goes to the CDI. My book is early, circa 2000 but the bike's electrics haven't changed much.
