Default Help

hi. I'm new here & I have a ?
I have a '96 honda 300 Fortran and I'm having trouble w the oil light coming on and off. If i barely go it stays off but when I give it a little gas the oil light comes on real dim and then gets bright. As soon as I let off, the light goes back off.
I tried changing the oil and filter and that didn't fix it. I haven't changed anything else on atv.
please help because I ride it all the time just about every where I go.
thanks in advance!!!

The "oil light" is the temperature warning light. and shouldn't come on unless the engine is overheating. It is controlled by a little black box which looks rather like a Chinese CDI and the temp signal is sent from a sensor in the crankcase. If your bike has a fan, is it coming on? If it is overheating, check the plug colour as the fuel/air mixture could be weak. If it doesn't seem to get all that hot, either the black box (Honda call it the alarm,) or temp sender unit, will be faulty.
