2006 honda recon es won't crank
#1
My sons bike won't crank. I have power to the plug at the starter solenoid when the key is on and start button pushed. Once I hook the solenoid up I get no voltage at the plug or solenoid. I can jump the solenoid and bike will crank. Bad solenoid? I replaced with same results. I have power until I hook up new solenoid. I keep these on had because I have 7 bikes. I thought maybe a bad ground but can't find any short using volt meter. Anyone have any idea as to the problem? Thanks

How were you testing for power when you "have power to the plug at the starter solenoid when the key is on and start button pushed?" As you can get volts showing on a voltmeter with no power to back them up. I tend to use a high wattage 12v test lamp for this, as it checks for power rather than volts. Usual suspect is the starter button, if you are not getting a light at the solenoid yellow/red, test both sides of the switch, and keep following back to the fault.

Be careful if you buy a "test lamp" these days, I got one given a couple of years ago and it is useless, LED bulb, so will light up with almost no power, and directional, being a diode, so you can't put the croc clip on the battery pos to test negative wires with the probe. An incandescent motorcycle indicator stalk, or accessory shop reversing light, would be alternatives.
