i own a 2000 recon. it runs great but there is a downfall. i was riding today and it was fine. I went to start it back up about an hour after i rode it before and it would not start. It had about a quarter tank of gas...the plug was fine...the gas was on.. i filled it to the top with gas and tried to start it for a good five minutes. it ran fine after that but it has happened to me before. i know i had more than enough gas in it but my recon starts acting funny when I get anywhere below a half tank. also the reserve is screwy too. HELP ME!!!please

i know that i have to switch mine to reserve just under 1/2 tank. i dont know why, mine is the only one that does that of the people i ride with, but we all have pretty much the same bikes.

Mine does act up at about 1/2 a tank. It starts to sputter and backfire. I thought something was wrong but it is just normal..Just keep the tank full and everything will be fine.

you have to put it on RESERVE after a certain point. if you dont, not enough gas is being pumped while on the ON position.
and ive NEVER in my 4 years of owning a recon had trouble starting ever! I'm super pleased with this behavior.

How do you keep the tank full on an extended 4-6 hour ride?

i realize you have to switch it to reserve at some point. mine just seems to be the only one that has to be switched so soon at half a tank.

We have 2 - 2001 Recons, they do the same thing , we were riding last sunday, filled both tanks before leaving the house then road straight for a couple of hours , came to a stop then both died at the same time, now we just switch to reserve sooner to avoid this, it works fine.

Senior- it only appears to be half way. If you REALLY WANT TO...measure the gas left in...it should be more than one-third
