Which would be a better motor for a 4x4 kawa's 650vtwin or yama's 660single. This is not a comparison of the quads just the motors.

Instead of comparing the Kawie twin and the Raptor engine (they are different in too many ways), I can tell you the basic differences between the power of a twin and a single -- I think that's what you're getting at?

Two engines, one a 650cc single (four valve, dual overhead cam). The other, a 650cc twin (8 valve, single overhead cam).

The single will have more torque, rev slowly and top out at a lower rpm. For pulling power, the single would be the best.

A twin will rev more quickly, have less torque, put have a peak rpm of 2,000 to 3,000 more than the single. For quick horsepower, the twin would be best.

Hope this answers your question.

Actually a V-twin is quite a torquey motor. Kawa' has a much better 4X4 motor if you ask me.

Pam, you stated that Yamaha's motor is the Raptor engine?? You are wrong there, it shares some designs features but it is NOT the Raptor engine. It shares the 5 valve design (not 4). It sits it at a 45 degree angle like Hondas do and it has a shaftdrive therefore no where near the Raptor engine.

I thought he was just looking for a generic, which is better, two cylinders or one type of answer.

As far as which is specifically a better engine - the kawie or the yamie, there's no way to separate a shaft-driven engine from it's chassis -- the chassis makes a big difference in how a 4x4 engine performs.

Even if you compare hp and torque numbers, it's all a moot point if the chassis design doesn't work right.

personally i like the girzzley better (i haven't ridden either quad though) i just read the review of the grizz on wheel ATV action and it didn't get as good rating as the kawi. they both got 5 stars overall though. the grizz isn't good in mud or water they say.

I just read that test article myself, they said as great as it was in the dirt, the grizzly did not like water, simple splashing cause the motor to cough and sputter.
