wow, never seen a Z50 engine wear out! My nebor has had one since he was 5 and he has blown up every other bike he has had since such as a ATC200M(shatterd pistion), XR80(upper rod), XR250(valve float=broken pistion), CR80R (seezed from improper mix), but the Z50 still runs first kick without any smoke and has never had a oil change!

Nice topic,
I am in need of a new exhaust system for my sons 1985 Z50. Does anybody have any information on where I can get one. The muffler is shot. It has rusted over the years and the rust is now breaking off the inside of the muffler and it has gotten so bad that it has clogged the muffler so that no air can pass through.
I have tried cleaning it and it runs for about 5 minutes. Honestly, I have not even checked with my dealer to see if a new OEM muffler is available.

Wow thanks for all the help!
The motor is not worn out, it still runs but it is using a whole lot of oil and blowing a whole lot of smoke.
I took off the cylinder today and it needs new rings badly.
The cylinder walls look fine, and the piston itself is ok too.
I was going to clean out the cylinder but then I remembered hearing somewhere that you can't clean the carbon ring around the top of the cylinder bore, or your engine will use a lot of oil. Is this true?
Also what is the best way to break in the motor once I have the new rings installed?

If there is a ridge worn below the carbon edge, have it bored one oversize. If there is no ridge, go ahead and hone and re-ring it makeing sure the oil ring ends are oppesite of each other Rember the valve seals and just ride it light without overreving it for a while to break it in.
