The 400EX is absolutely awesome machine. Top-end it good, but the low-end and mid-range power are even better. The 400EX has great torque for ripping out of corners and rocketing down the straight-away. It is the ultimate trail machine. The suspension soaks up all bumps and handling is very precise and predictable. Buy one and you will not be dissapointed.

I have heard nothing but good things about Big Gunn exhaust. My machine ('99) is stock and I am fine with it.

Mine has FMF Power core IV, K&N Filter and jet kit and bigger main needle, one tooth down on back and always very high grade gasoline and i topped out at 74mph on blacktop. I dont think i ever want to go that fast again, you wanna talk adrenaline rush, WOW!

You won't be dissapointed with the EX. Even in it's stock form. I have ridden one with an FMF PowerCore, and one with a White Bros.

I really like the stock performance and the sound. The other pipes are really loud compared to stock.

I haven't felt the need to change mine from stock yet!

The Big Gun is the best sounding exhaust but it may ad a little in the mid and upper range it definately robbs some of the low end torque. Nice system though. Duncan Racing swears that the new Yoshimura pipe is the ultimate pipe for the 400ex.

Like rennym, I haven't felt the need to increase performance. Stock is awesome!

The Yoshimura pipe comes in a couple options. The full titanium pipe is around $570, but there are cheaper versions that start at around $400. I just got the DMC Dual system and it kicks ***. I raced my friend with a Big Gun and I beat him. You'll have fun no matter what u choose..
