Today I was riding and it soon got dark so i flipped on the headlight. After about 10 minutes as usual the battery was dead so I pushed it off and got it started again. About another 15minutes later it appeared to me it started hitting the rev limiter more than usual but it shouldn't becasue the front sprocket is geared up. The more I rode the more It would cut out or act like it was hitting the rev limiter until at every throttle position it cut out and started back firing loudly and shooting about 2 feet of flames no joke out the muffler. I finally got it home and pulled the plug. It was a little more dark looking that usual but still had that nice brown look to it. I put a new plug i it and pulled the carb. Nothing was clogged and plenty of gas is coming out of the gas tank. It has a standard automotove solenoid and all the wiring looks good if that has anything to do with it. I put it all back together and it ran perfect for about 15 seconds then started backfiring and shooting fire badly and just died and wouldn't start back. Whats wrong with it? Anyone have a good idea? Please help me out here.

Hey check the output of the stator. The bat is prob not getting charged and you do not have enough voltage to keep the electornic ignition working properly. Prob just loose connection. It runs good for a short time because the bat recharges itself from sitting there a little.

Yeah thats what I did. I used a mete and by my clymer repair manual its not putting out enough. I still don't see how that would make it sputter. BTW the voltage/regulator appears to not be getting any juice. Could this cause the problem also?

Check your battery also. If there is no juice going through the voltage reg then you are not charging the battery. The Electronic ignition is kind of like a flashlight. It there is not enough electricity then the spark gets really weak and eventually the bike will misfire. Does the headlight look kind of dim?

Yeah I charged the batterey and the headlight never has been really bright. I pulled the plug again today and I think its too rich looking. I Took the 130 main and put a 128 in and just drove it down the road for a quick test and the trottle hung but it didn't sputter. I'm gonna pull the carb back apart and see what I put in wrong.
