So you want to know about the Rincon Tranny ??
#1
I dont know if someone has posted already about the rincon tranny, but I just got the new 4 Wheel ATV action and it has a big article on the Rincon. ITs a very rad machine. anyways, heres the article ..
The biggest new on the Rincon is the fully automatic three-speed transmission. Honda calls the Rincon the "SUV" of ATV's, and the 650 gets an automotive-style tranny. A Hydraulic Torque converter, three hydraulic clutches and a computer work in convet to shift the Rincon.
To decide when to shift, the Rincon's computer checks the throttle opening, vehicle speed, engine speed, gear position, braking and oil temperature. If you dont like the idea of a computer doing the shifting, the Rincons three-speed can also be thumb-shifted.
Because the shiftingis determined by a computer, there are no vacuum lines. Fully sealed, the tranny is claimed to be "imperviousto external contamination" and "maintenance free." Multi-filtered engine oil, moved by three oil pumps, is used as hydraulic fluid.
You might be wondering \why HOnda didnt use the high-tech hydro/mechanical Hondamatic tranny debuted on the Rubicon. Accoriding to Honda, a Hondamatic on a 650 would be too heavy, and Honda wont make an ATV that weighs over 600 lbs. dry. Honda also claims that the shifting tranny give the Rincon a "high-performance truck feel," rather that the "too-smooth, almost boring" feel of a CVT.
The lessons learned on the Rubicon arent completely ignored. The Rincon's 649 cc's engine is the same four vavle, short pushrod style used on the Rubicon. Also its has the semi-dry design that has an oil tank inside the engine cases. Like all Honda four-bys the tranny is mounted longitudinally in the frame so the shaft spins the same direction as the crankcase.
theres more.. but not about the tranny, its got 8 a-arms.. 4 on front and 4 in back.. instead of regular 2 a-arms in back. its got ON/off 4wd like on the new foremans.. 25 inch radial tires like on sport four wheelers.
