Unless your 300 came with 22" tires, your not going to get 2" of GC by putting on 26" tires. Every 2 inces in tire height, you only gain 1 inch of GC. Now the lift, putting on the lift only gives you more room for bigger tires not GC. Only tires will give you more GC, unles your measuring your skid plate and not your axle pumpkin, which is where true GC is measured, the lowest part of your atv.

 

ok, sorry, drop it back down to 10.8 the for the tires......and even if the axle hits, i can still rock it side to side and get traction.

 

you know when you have to rock them back and forth your honda has one tire at a time pulling on the back and one on the front so yea i see how your 2 wheel drive out does everything!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

HondaMan...you tell some funny fairy tales. With your oversized tires you'd lose bottom end and no way you could hold even with the 500 with your 300. Funny story though....keep em comming.

hondaman85 I would say with what you have on your 300 is about 8" GC max. Like I said, the lift won't give you GC only your tires. So if stock was 6.8" with 24" tires and you put on 26" tires you would only gain a inch more. So with a little extra air in them, you might get 8". Also the only way you would beat a sp 500 in a tug-a-war, the 500 would have to be on a slippery hill going up and you at the bottom going down.

 

Don't all you ten year olds get tired of this "my dad can beat up your dad" BS?. Getting back to the man's original question, Honda quads are rated at 850 lbs towing capacity but it's very conservative. I use my rancher 4x4 to move my wood mizer sawmill in and out of my shop. I have a 2" ball on the rancher and hook the sawmill to it. The mill weighs about 2800 lbs and the rancher moves it with no problems in first gear. I only have to move it about 100 ft and never get over about 2 mph, but it pulls it just fine.

 

I think they are rated for 850#, but if you stay on level ground, I don't see why that couldn't be doubled (keep your speed down). IMHO I think they purposely keep it low in case some idiot tries going down Pikes Peak overloaded, fries the brakes, and wrecks, Honda can go back and say that it wasn't their fault as the tow capacity is clearly listed.
More important is tongue weight. Overload the tongue, and go through a ditch or furrow, and you can bend an axle. I have seen that happen on more than one occasion.

 

I'm wondering if where you've looked for this spec.
On page 189 in the index of the owners manual there is a line, "Trailer towing" and under that "weight limits"............55 (meaning page 55)
On page 55 of my 01 Rubicon owners manual it states, Quote:
Tow weight limit=850 lbs [385kgf]
(combined weight of the trailer and all cargo in the trailer) (3776N) Maximum

and a few other weight specs.
