Recon and Rancher Owners Question
#1
I feel like I am getting a lot of "feedback" from the trail through the steering. I notice this particularly on hardpack. It's like the bike is trying to yank the bars form you hands at times. I suspect the culprit is the Tracker front tires. The 250EX (which is a sport version of the Recon) doesn't do this at all, and it has different tires. It's about time for a tire change anyway, and I am wondering if I can improve this with different tires.
So, my questions are, do those of you with stock tires also notice this?? And, those who have changed to other brands of tires did the condition improve??

Hi YZGUY,
Yes, it happens on my Rubicon and Recon.
Besides the feel of wanting to go straight (harder to steer) the tires also emit a noise when I hit hardpack. It sounds like a growl, similar to driving on a paved street.
Hope this help you,

Hi YZGUY
I've noticed it on my recon also. I still have the stock tires so I do not know if they are the problem. The 250EX uses a 10"rim vs. the 11"rim on the recon. That could explain the difference between the two.

I answered the question myself this weekend. I pulled the Blackwater 26X8-12 fronts off the 4X4, and put them on the 2X4. The "feedback" was largely gone. So, I think it is the stock front tires, rather than something inherent in the bike. The stock tires do give lots of bite when turning, but I don't think the twichey handling is worth it.
