Done My First Maintenance Service Today!
#1
I decided after I changed the oil in my Trax 300 '94 model that I would save myself some possible trouble and change my front differential, rear final gear case oil, and front gear case oil. I bought this unit about 2 months ago. "They changed all the fluids and serviced it before I took it home." Yeah right. I thought so until I did change the oil and It was so black and old I knew there was no way they had changed it. A couple weeks go by and I think to myself that if they didn't change the engine oil, what makes me think they did the others? I then educated myself the best I could and got the Hypoid gear oil and the Honda 10w 40 that the manual calls for on the front gear case and started today. The front differential went no problems. The rear was some tricky. The drain plug had been rounded off and it wasn't coming out, so I used a Turkey baster and sucked it out of the fill cap hole. I propped up the front end to make it run back to get it all out. I then measured 3 oz. of the Hypoid that I used for the front differential and funneled it in. It all went and come right to the fill line. I am a chronic over tightener. I break everything from over tightening. So I followed the manual recommendation for 9 ft. lbs. of torque on the drain plugs and I also did the same on the fill caps. Didn't want to strip anything. I will watch and if need be snug up if leaks occur. I feel good about getting that accomplished and still have the front gear case oil to go. Hope all goes well even though it seems like tight space to work with there. Thanks for listening.
