I really don't see where the 400EX is superior in anyway when compared to the Z. The Z has everything the 400EX should have come with from the start. Sure, put a 440 kit in one, still don't have reverse or liquid cooling. Put a 450 kit in a Z then where's the 440EX? I just don't see the EX being superior in catagory. Yes, the EX is a nice ride, but, hey, Honda has to step up now.
Give it another 6 months to a year and the aftermarket will be just as flooded with Z parts as it is with EX parts. There is a good list already for them. What is not avail.? There are 450 kits, a arms, axles, shocks (if not, will be very soon), pipes (granted some are not avail., but definitely coming soon) What's not there? Good news for EX riders, I think, is that the parts will prob. drop in price.
A 440EX beating piped and jetted Raptors? Maybe on the track with a good rider, but not in a drag race. Pipe and jetted Raptors are upwards of 50hp. Has anyone even seen a piped and jetted Z yet? No one on here has done that yet.

I hope honda steps up and builds a better, faster quad. I personally will stick with honda and yamaha, so the Z is out of the question for me.
I personally have never rode any quad that comes as close to my 250R as the 400ex does. Rapotor, banshee, etc etc.. I have yet to ride a Z, they are popping up all over the dunes though!

Binfordw, the 400ex doesn't need reverse when it has everything else.
It is not slower and I don't know about other peoples 400ex's but mine is anything but plain in style. It greatly depends on what you've done to your quad and what you're willing to do to your quad. As I said my quad beats z400's, Raptors, 250R's, and more but we've done alot to my quad and are willing to do much more; in fact we're taking my 440ex to a 465 alcohol this week. So deciding on a quad also has a lot to do with how much your willing to spend.

WHY do you people think you have to have REVERSE?!?!? My god, just pick up the damn thing and sling it around!! It dont take a muscle man ya know! If you guys are too lazy to get off your quad and/or be willing to get another quad thats not as good with poorer handeling and power and reliability, you should not be riding at all!
Another thing, binfordw, why do you count AIR COOLED as a CON??? Whats wrong with air cooled? I have never had, or never heard of a air cooled quad to run hot! Besides, if you had one with a radiator there you would be having to worry about keeping water/antifreeze in it which = more maintanice (sp?).
I also agree with what AZsandJR said, the 400ex doesnt need reverse when it has everything else....nuff said bro!!

People seem to forget that when the 400ex was put into production, the only other big competition on the market to get was the banshee. The 400ex was made to compete with the banshee and it did that successfully. Now that all these new quads are coming out, they are being made better handling and faster than ever. This is what the 400ex did when it was put into production. So if the z400 is better then the 400ex performance wise, why do all of you people care? If it is better, than how are you gonna prove it false? Now if honda ever decides to step up and make a new quad, you can bet it will be just as good if not better then the new atvs coming out today.
