break in period

With that new rubicon, your going to want to run it up and down through the gears at mid throttle for a while. Don't rap it out, but don't baby it too much either. It needs to be driven at variable loads for a while to get the best break in. As far as the oil goes, change it after you have run 2 full tanks of gas (preferabley Premium Unleaded) through it.

What is most important about the break in period is that rotational surfaces are allowed to wear away any imperfections and "bed" to a more perfect state. Even the most expensive production equipment cannot create rod bearings and crankshafts that are a perfect match. This is why it is so important to use a conventional oil during the break in period. Synthetic oils perform so well that these surfaces can reach their polished state before bedding can occur.
You won't notice it during the initial years of service, but can definitely make a difference well down the road.
