WHICH GEAR IS BEST ON RUBI....D1 OR D2?
#11
We have probably put more miles in D2 than the other modes. D1 and ESP are probably split in usage. When we start working the ATV we use D1 or ESP. Sometimes just feel like shifting and I use ESP for coming dowm alsost anything. 2600 miles and no problems.
We seem to average around 20 mpg with a load of close to 400 pounds. If the terrain is very rough and we spend considerable time in low range the miles drops considerably, like everything else. We did get a one time high of a little over 29 mpg. 64 miles of mostly flat trails. We rode from Big Springs, Idaho into West Yellowstone on the old Rail Road tracks. Rails and timber removed and graded road. Not a tough ride by any means but what beautiful country and TONS of wildlife.

Specta, that sounds like a awesome ride! Gotta do it someday... I just got back from hunting in eastern oregon, Used my rubi for alot of road running to favorete spots and frogot to re-fuel on the 3rd day and i was amazed at how much fuel i used! I hit reserve (way out in the brush) at 40 miles!! Eeek! Thank god i found a gravel road that i could cruse 40MPH back to camp on! What a small tank- what do people do to get back when they have a 50 mile trip into the woods? This quad is not made for remote areas.

I am not sure about my gas milage but a few weeks ago I went mudding out at Falls Creek and then rode up into the Devils Den area. While doing this I burned a quarter of a tank of gas at the mudholes and I ended up riding about 55 miles and this is with my 27" Claws on Ruby and I never hit reserve.

Nick01 I have installed a4x2 kit by warn on my rubicon which lets me go from 2 to four wheel drive. It makes it fun for sliding the back end around and slinging mud. The kit isnt very hard to install. If you are interested in one I can tell you where you can get one for a GOOD price.

Several times we have run out the main tank (2.6 gallons) around 55 miles, with the one gallon reserve left. One trip in Wyoming in the snow, we travelled 38 miles acording to the odometer. With no snow we traveled about 9 miles (a lot of tire spinning in the deep snow). Around 32 miles the main tank was dry. Acouple of guys on their SP 500 ran their main tank out before me, 4 gallons for them. Taht was the worst mileage, for everyone there.

No I have not installed a unlocker kit, but I have found the Ruby to be able to do full donoughts in low range and even with the 27"s . Most peolpe do not believe unless they see in but my Ruby has made believers out of my friends.

Specta, Did the altitude effect your rubicon in Wyoming? We road in Colorado this summer and the altitude real decrease the power.I didn't rejet the carb. but I did take the lid to the breather off and that helped some. We road up to 14,155 feet according to my GPS, and the power up there was very poor. We are planning another trip there do you have any helpful ideas?
