Early 80's Honda 200 help needed
#1
Hi: My "old" 200 is in relatively good shape....however for years the key ingnition has had to be toggled to get the "green" neutral light so it will start. Now, I cannot even get the green light. I'm thinking all I need is the ignition. Does this sound right to any of you who know about these things? My husband passed away last year, and I am trying to get all my machines up and running for the spring. Any suggestions where I might be able to purchase this ignition switch? I would appreciate any help at all. I will be trying to fix this myself. Thanks so much!

Hi Betsy, you can buy parts for your machine from a Honda dealer. Before you do anything make sure your battery is fully charged and good. Also check your main fuse underneath the seat. If those are good, take off the front of your headlight and follow the ignition switch wires to their coupler inside the headlight. You will find a green and black\white wire, leave these alone as they are for your kill switch and are a ground. You will also find a red, this comes directly from the main fuse and should light a test light at all times, even when the switch is off. The other color is (not positive here as I'm doing this from memory) brown, maybe brown\red , maybe solid black, maybe yellow\red. With your switch coupler plugged in, this wire should light a test light when you turn the key on. If you don't have a test light, you could jump these two wires, red and brown, with a paper clip. You are then doing the same thing your ignition switch does! If your lights then come on, replace the switch.
