ive seen a few frames crack at the track, but they were 15 year old trx250r's that had been raced most of their lives. Most stock frames, as mx400exgirl said, are up to the challenge of mx or any other type or racing. The larger, 50+ ft jumps can take thier toll on a quad after a while though.

What do you know about Honda releasing a new sport quad in July? I can't get any dealer to say anything and I am looking at the 400EX but hedging my bet that there will be a new one this year and I'm willing to wait.

stephiesdad, Alot of people were not at the trade show. Can you tell us what was there?
I do think that it is beneficial to the atv after market parts industry that new quads don't come with the best of everything. So people spend money improving their quads. But I don't agree that the frame is one of these items although you can purchase after market frames. You might as well build a quad from scratch if you have to replace the frame in the beginning.
Rancher3S, It really depends on if you want to buy new or used and how much you can spend. Everyone can say get a 400EX or Z400 but if you can't afford them then the advice is useless. How much can you spend and do you know if you want new or used? Since you are new to sports quads your choices might be the anything in the 200 to 350cc range. You are experienced at riding the Rancher so you could probably go larger. Would you need reverse in Iowa? If not then the 400EX is selling for reasonable prices new. If you do need reverse then maybe the Z400 or one of it's copycats. Also, What would fit you? How tall are you and how much do you weigh? You could be a 90lb. 16 yr. old or a 300lb. 16 yr. old.
You could also be 4.5 ft. tall or 6.3 ft. tall. It depends also on what you can handle. If you are an experienced rider that is 300lbs. and 6.3ft. tall you might be able to get a Raptor if you can afford it.

 

get the new Z400 or KFX400 they kick *** man trust me on this

 

well guys im 6' and 170 pounds...and i dont think i can afford a brand new one...but late 90's early 00's

If you are looking used then a 400ex is your best bet. They are fairly abundant and can be found at around 3k, mostly stock.

 

If you don't need reverse then a used 400EX would be good. You could always improve it later if you want. There are others like the Warrior and Banshee, 250R, ect... I would choose a 400EX if I was to buy used. Smaller quads might be a little cramped and you're probably going to grow more.
