I have both of these machines(2000 400EX,1999 Yamaha Banshee)The truth is that a Banshee has a
top speed greater of ONLY 6 MPH!!!And I know a way to beat a banshee without buying any modifications!!Take off the rubber sleeve on the throttle cable and take off the lock nut and adjust the throttle cable so there's no more slack
This will give you a big improvement and will let you hang with a Banshee!!!

So you can take the nut out where the throttle cable hooks up at the handlebars? I adjusted my 400ex so there is almost no slack already. I also checked the butterfly in the carb and it is horizontal at full throttle (it stops also). Are you sure that is all you do? Thanks!

Does it say this in the owners manual or the maintenance manual? If it is the maintenance manual, which maintenance manual? Thanks Again!

One thing I've noticed while riding my 400ex around with my friend (who has a LT250 Quadracer) is that the EX has gobs of low-end power and torque, while the LT250 doesn't get going 'till you get it up in the RPMs. I can leave it in second gear around a tight corner and hang with him while he has to downshift to first in the same corner and rev it to the nuts.

I've heard the Banshee is the same way, it's doggy until you get it up in the RPMs, is this true? Makes sense to me, since it's just a 175cc twin engine, you wouldn't expect it to have any bottom-end. This would make the banshee a great machine if all you were doing was racing or dune-riding, but would make it useless in the woods on tight trails. I think you guys need to realize there is no 'best' ATV, but instead that each ATV is good for certain types of riding. I know of a few places where my old fourtrax 300 4x4 would WASTE a banshee (DEEEP mud holes, snow, etc.) so don't go acting like whatever quad you have is the best of the best, it just might be the best of what you like to do.

On page 86 in the y2k 400ex owners manual, throttle adjestment as discussed. The manual says to pull the rubber cover back, loosen the lock nut, adjust for 1/8" to 5/16" of free play at thumb, tighten the lock nut and slide the rubber sleeve back into place.
