Hardwood, if you do the exhaust wrap make sure you do it right or it will cause hot spots and burn through your pipe. I know its more expensive but if thats not a huge concern of yours get the pipes ceramic coated, it works much better and wont harm anything. (Looks good too)
I agree with alltoys, If I had the heads off I wouldnt consider putting it back together without the headjob. (not that kind of headjob ) Heads are one of the best power making components in the engine. Unless you start playing with the compression the headwork wont cost you reliability.
I also am glad to see a dealer taking an intrest, I would pay for knowledge over a good deal everytime!!!

Jason,
Doing headwork shouldn't increase the running temp of the machine. It will increase the flow of mixture both into and out of the combustion chamber resulting in increased horsepower. If you start shaving the head you will start running hotter because of the increase in compression ratio. If you oversize the pistons you will also raise the compression ratio because you are now displacing more volume inside the combustion chamber.
If your 650 is running on the warm side in the summertime I have a suggestion that will help. Try changing the coolant to a mix of water and water wetter. This will drop the running temp by around 20%. Remember if you do this to change it back to coolant before the cold weather hits as water and water wetter WILL FREEZE, however it will allow the machine to run MUCH cooler in the summer heat.

Update From Kawi650
Freedom,
1.) It sounds like Jason is happy with your service but I would not be, I would not be happy until I was driving my bike and actually be VERY upset for every day I had to do without it for this simple fact, I love this 650 V engine and bike. It does nothing for Kawasaki's image to hear someone who has to do without while the dealer figures out(days/weeks) what to do and then to get it done. Get that poor soul on his V twin before he goes and buys something else, I know I would be thinking of it if I was too long without my bike! We do love to ride and HATE to be down, especially on the big V. Every day without my bike would be another day I would be pissed off!
2.) I don't know if you have ever watched Consumers Reports , W5, Fifth Estate or Market Place but I do and the one thing that is common in ripoff establishments is the EXTRA costs which the dealers lays on the customers after the original price (depends on flinch). So when someone called who *acts* like he has money and doesn't flinch with the original price PLEASE do not say when they ask (is that all) to hear, well there is shipping & handling on top, bla bla bla. It might have been your salesman or you or whoever, I do not CARE. You lost my sale as if you even had it with my suspicions of calling the big city anyway. I've been to tranny shops etc. and know how they work when you seem nieve. You might want to change your POLICY ! Is Freedom just another word for singing the Blues, for when your bikes there you're not driving it and won't be for awhile?
For all dealers,
the chicken coup is wired now, we have instant communication to all other feeders of your product and care, one squawk and we all look and hear of any predators, any ill product we are fed. If things are not taking care of in proper and QUICK manner, we will keep squawking until we are slienced or appeased. That why the internet is oh so good, we will squawk until the cows come home and if you haven't noticed, they go mad if not fed properly TOO.
For Kawi,
if you have machines that get too hot and caused undue damage, do something FAST, like include water wetter in them (anything) give us V owner a FREE bottle maybe and push your dealers to cure ANY problems of your fault with compensation, this IS your name not just theirs.
Thank GOD for our woods and the haven they provide us. I mean it and NEED it.
I am going to enjoy it on my V twin, sorry you can't come and join us Jason, we are having fun (not frustration).
Hope your up and riding SOON, like YESTERDAY.
DOA
