pro"s and no"s for twist throttle!!!
#11
I've had the Motion Pro twist throttle on my V Force for a little over a year now. This was is my 1st quad and I was very noob to ATV's at the time. I was very used to street bikes and the thumb pump just killed me. After over a year with it on the quad it can be a handful at times.
Pro's:
1)I feel I have much better control over the quad because I can wrap my whole hand around the handle bar's.
2)No more thumb pump.
3)It feels more natural to me.
4)It freed up some space on the right side of the handle bars.
Con's:
1)Last week while going up a very steep rocky hill I hit a outcropping of rock at the top of the hill. Whilst hanging on for dear life I inadvertanly gassed it and it flipped but I jumped prior to it coming over on top of me. This is the first accident I have had while using the twist throttle.
2)It can be hard to turn to the right sharply at times but this can be contributed to my girth as well.

When it comes to twisth throttles, you either like them, or you dont. There is only one way to know....try it. My 2000 model 450S foreman came with a "AG" series twist throttle(allows you to hold the throttle in place for farming and such) and it took me a while to get used to. Now I really like it. You have to learn to ride differently with a twist throttle, and you really have to pay attention to how you hold the bars. In the first few weeks I got into trouble a couple of times on the rocks when I wasnt paying enough attention and nearly flipped the 450. Of course the same thing has happened to me on my 650 prairie with the thumb throttle. I hit a terrace and jumped it and landed funny, got thrown up to the bars(pinning my thumb) and nearly lost it. Moral of the story, try it before you buy it!

for me... we like the twist enough, that all our quads have & will have them... I was also much more used to the twist, from motorcycle expience, but, ran our quads for 2 years, with the stock thumb throttles, before switching them over... the benifits, are no sore thumb ( even my wife, with no bike expirience prefers the twist to a regular thumb throttle )... she did like the thumb extender better than the twist, but after crashing her quad, during a hare scramble race, while my BBK was being installed, & the crash being related to the thumb extender... that part came off... On my "big" Prairie, the only negitive ( just takes getting used to ), is that I have a tendancy to not roll fully off the throttle, when riding really aggressivelycoming into corners, which can keep the KBEC from engaging... other than that, the thumb throttle was a little quicker at the drags, but we fixed the motor to compensate for that ... if you chose to switch to a twist throttle, just allow your self several rides with it, before engaging in any "pushing the limits" riding...
