Well, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about the Kawasaki Tecate-4(1987-1988).

What do you think about it?

Anyone have experience with this quad?

Anyone here ride/own one or used to ride/own one?

Have you ridden one yourself, and how did you like it?

What are some common problems you may have heard of?

Are they rarely found for sell?

What would be a good price for one that is used in fair condition?

Later, I'm pretty excited about this quad, and hope to get my hands on one someday...

The tecate chassis was infamous for its poor A-arm geometry and forward posititioed pilots comparartment. Its handling is often compared to a
ford Econoline van with a nirto-burning 1500 horse power engine.IN other words there is alot of bump steer and the back is hard to hook up.It couldnt match the honda or suzuki in corners
and to prove a moot point was only able to land one national victory of note during its. When it ran , the tecate also suffered constant ignition faliures If the stator didnt crap out the magnets would eventually fly off the rotor
Its quiet obvios why u never see anymore tecates most were driven to the top of a high ridge and pushed off with a victorios whoop

Although I have never had the pleasure of riding a Tecate-4, i do have a friend with a Tecate 3 wheeler. Im here to tell you, that machine is a ROCKET. The first time i rode it, i darn near flipped it backwards. Good thing he has the extended swingarm now! Its got a pipe, and thats about it. Most Banshees dont want anything to do with him when dune shooting!

As for trick300ex, how many ignition failures have you suffered on your tecates. I havn't had a failure on my KXT or KXF in the last 12-15 years that I have owned them.

I have had good luck with my Tecate-4 and do enjoy it's speed, reliability and being different. Parts are plentiful from the dealer and some aftermarket vendors. I would reccomend adding aftermarket a-arms and perfomance shocks to improve the handling. Just remember if it ain't green it ain't mean and better dead than red.

Good luck

I have riddin one THEY ARE FAST but i would recommnd a honda 250R it isn't as fast but fast enough and it is the best handling quad from the 250R era. IT IS RELIABLE FAST AND ALL AROUND GOOD!
THE TECATES ARE FAST BUT A 250R COULD KILL THEM ON AN MX TRACK
AN IF U THINK THE TECATE"S ARE RELIABLE BUY A HONDA AND TRUST ME IT WILL BE BETTER

Sorcerer,
You may be missing the point, If you have owned a real "hot rod" be it a car or a quad, you understand that more work must be done to these machines to keep them running right. Sure, maybe 250R is more reliable, but stock vs. stock the kawa kills it. You talk MX, yes honda dominates. But when you see a nice Tecate 4 at the dunes, youd better give it some respect!. Honda rules the track, but kawa made a serious machine in the Tecate 4.
RoostKing...
p.s. How many people race MX seriously? That is the Hondas advantage, Serious riders only....

To answer your question, 1 in 20.

Seriously, anyone who reads this, do you race? I don't yet, probably in the near furture though, as we have a race place near, I just need to get the chance to go...

I used to race! In 7 years of racing I have never seen a Tecate at the track. I'm not saying they're not good machines. They are! They weren't designed for MX. They were designed as a FAST play bike. I've ridden quite a few and they hual. There are far too many people shooting their mouth's off who dont have a clue what they are talking (typing) about. Grow up or shut up!
