My County Fair V-Force Drag results.....
Not as good a report as I would like, but heck it was my first officail 300 foot drag race and those lights do go from white to green in a hurry!
I ran in the sport automatic class, so of course I was the only V-Force there running with a bunch of scrammys. 1st run was agains a scrammy 400 and I got a real bad start but came all the way back at the end and whooped him. 2nd run was again, against a scrammy 400, but this time I got a good start and a knocked him off by a mile. What puzzles me is the 3rd run. I am not sure if it was a scrammy 400 or 500 but he got little better start than me and I started to catch him and wam, it just left me. A friend of mine said it was a scrammy 4 stroke 500 but from what I have read those are pretty slow. Anybody have any insight? I am absolutly perplexed on this one!!
FYI, I had decided at the last minute to go so I wasn't really prepared. All I did was change out my spring to my my 3" hotseat spring, and hose off the V from trail riding the previous weekend. I am not sure if I was launching in the most efficient way. I have a tach and as soon as the staging lights came on I would power brake and run the rpm's up to 3500-4000 and try launching without wheelieing and did pretty good. In retrospect I am wondering if I should forgo the power breaking and just nail it? Maybe some f you more experienced drag guys can tell me which way is the best.
Also for the fun of it ran in the 4 stroke open class and got knocked off in the first run by a 400ex (probably 440ex). When he hit third gear he left me. I have a whole new repect for the 440. I saw a gal at another fair take the 1st place in the 4 stroke open with a 440ex. I knew I would get killed quick in this class as they are all heavily modded out machines.
Oh well, it was a ball, and hey 3rd place for sport automatic ain't too bad....right?

Some things you might want to try.
elimate the anti freeze thru the carbs.
try 2 56 gm weight and 2 stock, across from each other.
lighten clutch, pic's of my page.
get some Nitro made by Klotz at an automotive store. Add as directed,
Are any of the tires off your other bikes "taller". if so try them.
power brake,
use the next to the last light as the "go" light, release when it lights.
Good luck!

Shotgun, I did the carb hose reroute a while back. I had also previously ran the 56 gram/stock weights across from each other but went on a 130 mile trail ride in the mountains of TN a week ago and didn't want to expose my clutch to that slightly off balanced set up for a prolonged ride like that, so I changed to 4 56gram weights. I was told by the hotseat guys that running like that all the time would cause premature wear. I didn't have a chance to change the weights back to the set up you suggest before the drag. Trust me I will be READY next time
What are your thoughts on the longer springs? I know Samcoeds has had good results running the stock spring, but he also is running the V with a 60 or 70lb kid which is a huge advantage...I am around 220lbs. It seems to me that I can power brake up to 4000 rpm with the 3" spring and that I would not be able to get my rpms up that high with the stock.....let me know what do you think, as you are definately the pro on this stuff? Also do you have any thoughts on whether or not advancing the timing would be give me some more HP? or should I look at getting one of those modulaters that alltoys was talking about this past week?
I am going to lighten the clutch face plate and spider this week I think. Thanks for the info on the Koltz Nitro, I will get some.
Fullthrottle-- Did you get a noticable gain with the webcams? I agree on the wheelie bar, that helps change the launch 100%.
Wildchild--I didn't get the times, but I do have the land to do drags on at my home so i will be getting using a stop watch soon and getting more scientific about this!
still puzzled on how that last scrammy(whatever it was) pulled away from me

I'm here brewster;
I personally think the more RPM's you start with the better, but there is a fine line between to many.
If your wheeling and have to let off, then you need a lighter spring, Samcoeds tried several and went back to the stock.
Set yourself up a test track and try both along with different weight set up, each bike is a little different.
If you lighten your clutch, you'll gain RPM's and power, if you find your out of your power band, say 7400 RPM's than go back to the stock weights which would be heavier, they would bring the r's down and provide more grip on the belt.
Your ideal setup would be if you started at 6800 and crossed at 7200 RPM's, you be doing all you could do.
Advancing the timing would help alot, if you figure out how to do that, fill me in.
Good luck. keep us posted.
