Hi,

Just wanted to know if anyone had the new Maxxis Bighorn tires on their Prairie.
My dad is thinking about buy a set for his P700. How do they handle and feel? Thanks.

I've never tried these tires. All I know about them is that Mike Penland ran them on his Prairie 700 in the GNCC races last year (one of his sponsors is Maxxis). I like the looks of them for rock climbing/trail riding, but they are expensive. The tread pattern does not look like it would clean itself well in deep mud...but I haven't heard any first hand reports of these tires in the mud yet. I think they only come in 25 inch size right now.

Anyone else have any experience with these tires? I would love to hear about it too.

 

These tires are worth every dime...the lugs self-clean in deep mud,when I say deep mud I don't mean swamp holes 2 feet deep but stuff less then that and you will be impressed.Riding in snow: awesome! I have taken them out in 6 inches of snow and they hook up very well,I have been riding on them now for about 3 months,I used them in a big blizzard and I got stuck because the snow was 2 feet deep and I bottomed out on the skid plate. They are not a rough riding tire, they ride smooth on pavement and in the woods.The Bighorns seem like a well built tire and they look great on the c-series rims. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Be careful though, as the Bighorns may result in your left A-arm breaking off on the trail! Just kidding Chris -- did you take the Prairie to the dealer yet -- covered by the warranty? GO TEAM COOPER! Also, if you plan to ride on any of the "off" weekends let me know.

 

~LOL~ You Know they are a Tough Tire!! Even those I feel like I lost a Fight these last few days Im going to be getting back on the horse (V-FORCE!) This Saturday and Ride!! I had the radials to begin with on my P700: great ride, they hook up on trails and rocks wonderfully. Downside is weight; they are 25+ lbs heavier than the bias ply Bighorns.

I got the bias-ply recently: lighter, better steering response, much stiffer sidewall. IMO they don't hook as well on the trails as the radials, but I like them better. I feel like I can tell what the suspension is doing, whereas the radial didn't give quite as much feedback.
