KFX or YFZ?

KFX or YFZ?
Ok, I'm asking this question in the Kawasaki room as well as the yamaha room. Has anyone had experience with both the KFX 400 and YFZ 450? I really like the KFX just from looks, but I also like the looks of the YFZ. Now what I'm really wondering is which one is the better performer for the money.

Power and performance per dollar......they are about dead even. The yfz will respond a little better to mods, but the kfx is no slouch either. If you want a mostly stock machine and dont really plan to do many mods, then either will be just fine. Id say for recreational riding and mostly trails and maybe some cross country racing, the kfx is more practical and affordable. If you plan to race mx at all, the yfz is by far the better choice. Not to say that the yfz is not a good trail bike cause it is. Its mostly just preference. Once you get used to whichever one you choose, you can tailor it to be right for you. Final words...for the everyday average ordinary joe just wanting a killer machine to hit the trails, light mx track, or hillclimbs, the kfx with its strong, but very controllable power range, is the best choice.
Ps.S. The kfx has reverse!!!!

I agree. While I have no experience with the YZF, I know from what I've read here that it's faster and has better suspension. Now, look at the price tag . That's alot of money that you could throw into the 400 if you want. The KFX400 is no slouch completely stock, plus it has more riding room if you are larger than the average 14 YOA.
If you want the best current MX atv out there, get the YZF. If you want a machine that you can ride in the trails and just plain have fun on, get the KFX400. It's not the biggest or the baddest, but it does everything well enough for most riders. Reverse is a bonus and I personally use it all the time.

I have owned both. It really depends on what you want to do with it. The yfz is not a wheeler you can putt around if you want to. It is really high strung (compression) and flat out halls. Stock vs. Stock the yfz would leave my kaw 400. I actually liked the 400 much better. Why? 1. you didnt have to have it full throttle all the time, if you wanted to putt a little it would. 2. reverse, reverse & reverse 3. with a yoshi pipe kit and jet kit it was like a whole new wheeler(wheelie in 4th) 4.price is about $1300 less for the kawasaki.
My yfz is on ebay as we speak. It isnt even broken in yet. I traded it for another 4 wheel drive.

So if you want to go full throttle all the time (Race)by the Yamaha, If you want to go as fast as everyone else or just play around get the Kawasaki/Suzuki.

I had the kfx and traded it in for the yfz. I loved the kfx from day one. I hated the yfz up until recently. Much easier in my opinion to wheelie the kfx which is what I love to do. yfz wants to stay grounded which is good for overall riding but a little hard to wheelie with. The kfx has a sweet balance point IMO. The yfz has a good one to but you have to work a little more to get there.
Both are great. I could be wrong but in stock form the yfz didn't feel that much faster than the kfx. You will be happy with whichever you decide. Now that my bike is modded I love it but I will always miss the kfx.

Great to see info without any brand loyal BS.
I think people are starting to see or better understand that the fastest machine may not be the best choice for everyone, and that a high rpm powerband is not the easiest thing to ride and you may be faster on another machine that may not be quite as fast etc.
Have fun with the new quad

I got a deal and bought my yfz450 for 6100 instead of 6899. IMO it is way faster than the kfx 400 in stock vs stock racing but the kfx might still be the bike for you.
I bought mine for mostly racing and trail riding. The kfx does have reverse which is great for trails. I think the kfx is more conferable than the 450 also.
But it is your choice.
